For people with lactose intolerance, it's sometimes difficult to enjoy all the treats on the dessert tray especially because many of them contain milk chocolate or lots of butter. That's why we recreated three of our favorite classics to savor and share this season - all lactose free and traditionally made with simple ingredients.
Classic Sugar Cookies with Glaze
These traditional sugar cookies are super easy to make and so delicious. They maintain their shapes when baked and are perfectly crisp on the outside and tender in the middle. Whip up a batch and recruit your family to help cut out fun shapes and ice the cookies with a sweet simple glaze made with lemon juice and powdered sugar.
Cocoa Brownies with Spiced Chocolate Ganache
This isn't your ordinary brownie. The milk chocolate and butter in traditional brownies are typically not lactose-intolerant friendly. So we created a rich cocoa brownie and topped it with a decadent spiced ganache made with honey, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and nutmeg. All the spices to fill your home with a sweet holiday aroma.
Lactose-free kitchen tip: On its own, cocoa powder does not contain lactose and makes a great base for baking with chocolate. Most people with lactose sensitivity can minimize lactose with a high-cacao bittersweet chocolate. Look for a cacao percentage of 60% or higher. Depending on your level of sensitivity, always double-check the ingredients list for hidden sources of lactose.
