As of July 2018, Green Valley Creamery has made the difficult decision to suspend production of our lactose-free butter. We know that butter is a beloved product for many of our customers. Unfortunately, the extremely limited supply of organic cream left us with no choice.
We source our milk and cream from a local, organic family farm near our creamery in Sonoma County. In its natural state, milk consists of about 3-4% butterfat. To make our butter, which consists of 80% butterfat, requires more cream than this farm is able to produce. At this time, we simply can’t obtain enough organic cream to meet the demand for this product. There is a nationwide cream shortage affecting all producers, due to the rising trend of full fat dairy products.
Our goal is to bring back our butter as soon as possible. To that end, we are working diligently to find a consistent source for organic cream. We will be sure to let all of our customers know as soon as we are able to make butter again. In the meantime, you can still enjoy our lactose-free sour cream, cream cheese, kefir, yogurt, and cottage cheese.
